Learn Guitar – the key missing ingredient to learning guitar chords
By U Learn It | February 21, 2009
You have your first guitar but what do you need to do to start playing it?
Once your guitar is tuned and you’re ready to go the first thing you need to do is learn guitar chords.
There is no easy way to learn guitar chords and it can be a frustrating experience. It will inevitably be difficult to get your fingers to hold down the strings and it’s always a struggle to change between two chords fast enough to play songs.
Learning guitar chords is tough – no doubt about it – but with a few simple tricks and techniques you can save yourself hours of wasted time, energy and frustration
The number one thing you’re going to need when you learn guitar chords is finger strength.
I remember when I first started playing I had the strangest teacher. One of the weirdest things he ever had me do was to practice changing between guitar chords while I was wearing a skin tight pair of leather gloves.
At the time it seemed ridiculous but now I realize there was a method to his madness.
If you think about it, wearing gloves and playing guitar is difficult. The amount of finger strength required to hold the chords correctly is huge, but you know what?
This technique worked magically for building my finger strength.
Another key element in learning guitar chords is getting used to playing and changing between chords with a good rhythm. The key here is to remember that when you change between chords you don’t have to lift your finger too far off the fret board. In fact only a few millimeters is enough to change between chords.
So next time you’re playing ask yourself if you’re wasting time lifting your fingers too far.
